What It’s Like to Be a Member of the Dallas Woman’s Forum

At first glance, the Alexander Mansion may seem like a quiet historic landmark. But step inside on a meeting day, a holiday tea, or one of our community service events, and you’ll feel it: the buzz of women working together, laughing, organizing, building friendships, and creating lasting traditions. This is the heart of the Dallas Woman’s Forum.

Being a member means becoming part of a legacy of women who’ve supported one another—and their community—since 1906. It’s not just a name on a roster. It’s an invitation to lead, plan, create, restore, and grow.

What Do Members Do?

Some women join for the social connection. Others want to get hands-on with events, preservation, or community projects. The beauty is that you can do as little or as much as you want, and your role can evolve with your interests.

Here are just a few ways members get involved:

  • Plan and Host Events
From our much-loved Christmas Tea to themed fundraisers like An Evening of Downton Abbey Elegance, members work behind the scenes to decorate, coordinate, and welcome guests into our historic home.
  • Serve on Committees
Whether you enjoy marketing, hospitality, education, or historic preservation, there’s a place for your skills and passions. Members serve on our Community Outreach, Communication, Publicity, House and Grounds, Education, History, or Social committees.
  • Participate in Departments
The Dallas Woman’s Forum was the first departmentalized woman’s organization in Texas, started in 1906. The departments provide opportunities to explore specific interests, such as Literary, Culinary, Art, and more. If you don’t see the department you are looking for, you can start one!
  • Lead and Make Decisions
Members can serve on the board or help shape the direction of the Forum through active leadership roles.
  • Learn Something New
Attend lectures, participate in tours, or enjoy book talks in the comfort of the Alexander Mansion’s library.

Events That Bring Us Together

This year’s calendar is full of ways to connect and contribute. We’ll gather for the Members Reassembly Brunch in August, host monthly board meetings, bi-monthly Member Meetings and Luncheons, and celebrate major events the Christmas Tea at the Alexander Mansion, our Literary Luncheon Series, and the heart-warming Valentine Tea.

These events aren’t just about entertainment—they’re about friendship, purpose, and belonging.

Volunteer Your Time and Talents

Community Outreach is near and dear to our hearts. We serve the women and children in our Dallas neighborhoods. From preparing donations for teachers at a local elementary school to volunteering to serve lunch at a women’s shelter, there are countless meaningful moments to lend a hand.

We volunteer our time and donate books, snacks, and Christmas pajamas to support the teachers and families at the Landauer ChildCareCenter. Our members enjoy helping with the Easter Egg Hunt and the preschool graduation celebration for the children each year.

A Place to Belong

Whether you’ve lived in Dallas for decades or just arrived, the Dallas Woman’s Forum offers a place to belong. You don’t have to be a historian, a socialite, or a professional event planner. You just have to care about preserving a beautiful home, continuing meaningful traditions, and spending time with thoughtful, dynamic women.

If you’ve been looking for a way to get involved, make new friends, or use your creativity for a good cause, we’d love to welcome you.
